It's Not You, It's your clothes...

This is something I wish every woman would understand.

So I've been altering some maternity clothes for a friend and we found something interesting. Take a look at this picture of a jersey knit wrap shirt. Can you tell whats wrong? The arms look like they were made for an ape. The white line represents where the middle of her hand is. They are 6 inches longer than they need to be! To make matters even weirder, one sleeve is an inch longer than the other. What the Weird?!
This is an example of when pattern grading is not always used correctly. Grading is when they take a patter that's a size 6 and make it to fit size 2 to 16, plus size and maternity. For some reason they think that if the torso needs to be longer, so do the arms.
Most woman aren't a size off the rack!!! Sometimes we find a designer or brand that fits us the best, but lets face it, we like to shop at more then one store. Getting things altered isn't a bad thing. It most likely isn't your body, it's the clothes. So next time you go shopping don't get frustrated, just call your new seamstress for help! :)

And So It Begins....

I decided long ago that I wasn't going to create a blog until I had kids. Matt and I just aren't exciting enough to have multiple posts a week or even a month. My facebook page rarely changes! However, I figured this would be a great creative outlet for me and it might possibly help my small home business to grow. I hope in the future to be able to post lots of crafty and fun project tutorials, as well as advice on sewing dilemmas. Those of you out there who say you can't sew, I have faith in you. If you have the desire, you can learn. There are multiple projects out there that don't require any sewing at all; so there is hope. I am currently working on a few basic alterations that aren't too exciting to talk about. However, I will be starting on a bunch of dance costumes next week including neon spanky shorts, sexy jungle dresses, and magic carpets.... That's right I said magic carpets. I will post those when I'm finished. In the mean time, have a great holiday season!
